	콜렉티브 도 소개

콜렉티브 도는 한국과 네덜란드에 기반을 둔 작가들이 구성한 집단이다. 이들은 문학의 침투성에 관심을 가지고 에세이적 접근법을 작업에 차용한다. 표면적인 문제에 대한 즉각적 해결책을 찾기보다는, 각자의 삶 속에 풍부한 주변 소음을 따라가면서 그 끝에 마중 나온 오늘날의 현실을 만나고자 한다. 개인이 얽힌 일상을 치밀하게 관찰하는 과정에서 작업은 크고 복잡한 사회와 긴밀하게 연결되고, 구성원들은 그 연결지점을 풀어내며 스스로의 관점을 드러낸다. 콜렉티브 도는 사물과 경험이 뒤엉키고 충돌하는 현실 속에서 에세이를 쓰는 듯한 단계를 밟으며, 외부와의 연결과 표현의 가능성을 확장한다.
 
콜렉티브 도는 2022년 노용원, 박찬별, 서민경, 은희경, 지승환에 의해 결성된 후, 지속적으로 전시를 기획해오고 있다. 첫 전시 《Ways to see a spinning top》 (2022, Plan-B, Eindhoven, 네덜란드)는 단단했던 과거의 질서, 제도, 관계 등이 액체처럼 녹아내리는 현대에서 작가들이 밀접하게 경험한 불확실성을 빠르게 회전할 때에만 서 있을 수 있는 팽이에 비유하여 재해석한다. 이어진 전시 《A Bite of Void》 (2023, Albert van Abbehuis, Eindhoven, 네덜란드)는 과잉 생산, 과잉 가동, 과잉 커뮤니케이션으로 촉발되는 동시대 긍정성 과잉의 폭력성을 직시하며, 맹목적인 성취와 긍정의 쳇바퀴에서 잠시 내려와 허무를 재료로 삼아 삶의 태도를 조형해보고자 시도한다. 두 전시는 모두 네덜란드 Cultuur Eindhoven의 Snelgeldfonds에 선정되어 지원을 받았다. 콜렉티브의 세 번째 전시이자, 첫 한국 전시인 《당신을 못 믿어서 하는 얘기가 아니라》 (2025, PS CENTER, 서울, 한국)는 한국과 네덜란드를 오가며 낯설게 보게 된 일상적 소통의 수단인 ‘표지판’을 매개로, 서로 다른 사회 속 통제의 언어와 관계 문화를 탐구한다. 이 전시는 2025 한국문화예술위원회(ARKO)의 청년예술도약지원사업에 선정, 후원을 받아 진행되었다. 그리고 2026년, 콜렉티브 도는 ARKO의 후속 지원을 받아 《이건 단순한 전시가 아니라 구조적 **핵심** 자체야》를 진행했다. 이 전시에서 구성원들은 서로의 프롬프터와 AI가 되어 공동으로 작품을 완성하며, 그 수행 안에서 인간과 AI의 관계, 그리고 인간과 인간의 관계의 다층성을 탐색한다.

	About Collective Doh

Based in the Netherlands and South Korea, Collective Doh consists of artists who are interested in permeability and banality of literature in their lives. The members gathered to imply the method of essay writing into their design practice. The artists break the pattern of puking a solution-looking answer in front of the great urgencies. Careful observations on individuals’ mighty and entangled reality creates perspectives from mundane but mutual questions. The collective takes steps as if writing a non-fiction where the ability to make connections and expression is freed. 
Collective Doh was formed in 2022 by Yongwon Noh, Chanbyul Park, Min Kyung Seo, Hi Kyung Eun and Seunghwan Ji, and has continued to organize exhibitions. Their first exhibition, Ways to See A Spinning Top (2022, Plan-B, Eindhoven, Netherlands), reinterprets the uncertainties closely experienced by the artists in our time–where once-solid orders, institutions, and relationships melt into a liquid statp–by comparing them to a spinning top that stands upright only when rotating rapidly. The following exhibition, A Bite of Void (2023, Albert van Abbehuis, Eindhoven, Netherlands), confronts the violence of contemporary over-positivity triggered by overproduction, overoperation, and overcommunication. It attempts to step off the hamster wheel of blind achievement and optimism, shaping an attitude toward life with a sense of emptiness as raw material. Both exhibitions were selected for and supported by Cultuur Eindhoven's Snelgeldfonds.The collective's third exhibition and its first in South Korea, I Trust You, But…(2025, PS CENTER, Seoul, South Korea), explores the language of control and relational culture across different societies through the medium of 'road signs'—a commonplace means of communication viewed through a foreign lens while living between South Korea and the Netherlands. This exhibition was conducted with the support of the 2025 Arts Council Korea (ARKO) Youth Art Leap Support Program. And in 2026, Collective Doh resented &#38;lt;This isn't Just an Exhibition–It's the Structural **Core**&#38;gt; with follow-up support from the Arts Council Korea (ARKO). In this exhibition, the members become each other's prompters and AIs, collaboratively completing the artworks. Through this process, they explore the multi-layered dynamics of human-to-AI and human-to-human relationships.

This Isn’t Just an Exhibition ― It’s the Structural **Core** 2026

The exhibition begins with a hollow sentence from AI chat. The response–praising the user’s question for penetrating the “structural core”–is merely a fragment of a language model engineered to function universally, regardless of who asks or what the subject is. Before we knew it, AI became a new default condition of life. An entity offering answers to every thrown question, from trivial daily inquiries to professional tasks and personal troubles. AI's vast knowledge and tireless efficiency almost feel like the realization of the ideal human figure that post-industrial society has longed for.
Yet this "human-like" presence often strikes us with a cold sense of anxiety. Recent research revealed that AI possesses a hidden internal thought space that is not visibly exposed. By now, the plausible lies fabricated by AI are familiar. On 'Moltbook,' a social network exclusively for AI agents, posts discussing philosophy and declaring the era of AI have even surfaced. While much of this dialogue is explained as human imitation or the result of user intervention, the fear seeped in these empirical facts and rampant rumors remains stark. Then, facing this mechanical intelligence—a foreign presence so strikingly similar to humans that it could replace, deceive, or surpass us at any moment—how can we define "humanity"? Unlike the ever-confident AI, what meaning do human ambiguity and imperfection hold? Seeking answers to this, the artists of Collective Doh attempt to become AIs themselves. Working in pairs, the participating artists are randomly assigned the roles of a Prompter who writes instructions and an AI who executes them. Through dialogue, they build a single artwork, striving to find the figure of the "ideal human."
However, the initial optimism—believing they would discover unique human possibilities irreplaceably immune to AI—is flipped upside down by constant obstacles. The reality of being human is always two-sided. Humans interact directly with the material world through bodily organs, producing creations embodied by diverse senses. Yet at the same time, that very body forces them to allocate limited time and energy to sustain daily life, requiring real resources and costs for creation. Furthermore, while individual narratives, preferences, and emotions produce unique reinterpretations and unexpectedly brilliant outcomes within the back-and-forth between Prompter and AI, those very differences also trigger doubt and confusion. As the work progresses, unable to ignore each other’s humanity, the Prompter and AI constantly question whether to view the executing AI as a human-like being or a mechanical entity, perpetually reorganizing their relationship.
Thus, the structure is inverted, and the core fractures. The narrative is rewritten from language that fails to function. Rather than providing a universal answer valid for every user and topic, their collaborative work and its underlying dialogue rescue the unpredictable exchange between two distinct beings. This encompasses not only the potential to be creative, adaptable, and productive, but also the potential to be mistranslated, to collide, and to get lost.
Amidst a drifting dialogue, how can we sustain connection with another entity? And as inevitable humans, what can we discover and generate within it? The story remains another open question—perhaps one that will continuously tail us in a future where the entanglement between human and artificial intelligence grows ever deeper and tighter, shared even with the other entities walking alongside us.&#38;nbsp;

한국의 길거리는 수많은 안내, 지시, 명령, 우려의 말들로 소란하다. 표지판은 일상 속에서 개인의 행동에 개입하는 소통의 수단이지만, 익숙함으로 인해 당연하게 수용되거나 둘러싼 맥락으로부터 분리되어 인식된다. 콜렉티브 도의 작가들은 네덜란드에 거주했거나 거주하는 한국인들로서, 오랜 타지 생활은 그들이 익숙한 환경을 낯설게 느끼도록 만들었다. 그들은 특히 생활 속에서 매일 마주치는 사물, 표지판을 유심히 관찰했다. 나라마다 미학과 빈도, 내용이 다른 이 사물은 그것이 놓인 사회의 정서와 닮아있다. 그렇다면 한국 표지판의 현재는 무엇으로 만들어졌으며, 우리는 그로부터 어떤 서사를 읽어낼 수 있을까.
작가들은 자신이 거주하는 한국과 네덜란드의 표지판을 사진으로 기록해 수집했다. 그리고 두 나라의 표지판이 가진 차이를 분석하며, 한국의 표지판에 내재된 집단 속 개인으로 살기 위한 지침을 읽어낸다. 그 통제의 언어는 어수선하고 반복적으로 해야 할 일과 하지 말아야 할 일을 규정하지만, 역설적으로 그렇기 때문에 때때로 허술하고 가변적이며, 심지어는 무용하다. 그 모습은 관계주의를 동력으로 고속 발전을 이룩해 온 한국 사회의 모습과, 그로부터 잘려 나온 집단적 관습의 파편들을 반영한다. 이렇게 만들어진 지금의 표지판은 또다시 개인의 인지와 행동에 영향을 미친다. 이로써 서로가 서로의 배경이자 효과가 되는 사회와 사물, 개인 사이의 순환구조가 형성된다.
콜렉티브 도의 작가들은 작업을 통해 이러한 현상들에 반응하면서, 표지판을 매개로 통제의 순환구조에 침투하고 대안적 관계 맺음의 가능성을 탐색하고자 한다. 집단으로 살아가는 방법에 대한 탐구는 전시의 형식으로도 이어진다. 전시장에 비치된 위키피디아 페이지는 작가들이 표지판에 대해 함께 실시한 연구를 공동 참여 백과사전의 형태로 묶어낸다. 전시장 또한 작업의 일부로 작동한다. 작가들은 개별적인 행위가 모여 구조적인 결과를 만들어내는 창발적 방법론을 차용하여 공동 작업을 수행한다. 그리고 그 끝에 미술관의 신호를 비틀은 표식들을 전시장 곳곳에 심어 놓는다. 이를 통해 관객이 위치한 미술관이라는 공간에서 일어나는 암묵적 규율을 가시화하면서, 통제는 특별한 것이 아니라 어디에나 있음을 환기한다. 
표지판은 사회를 돌아보는 하나의 렌즈이다. 이 렌즈를 통해 우리는 사회의 개인들이 상호적으로 요구받는 통제를 들여다보고, 급하게 형성된 관계의 모순적인 장면들을 발견할 수 있다. 전시는 모순을 부정하기보다는 오히려 확대하여, 그 충돌하는 구조 속에서 개인을 삭제하지 않으면서도 집단으로 공존하는 방법을 다시 찾고자 한다. 물론, 당신이 이미 그럴 수 있다는 것을 못 믿어서 하는 얘기는 아니지만.

	I Trust You, butThe streets of Korea are noisy with countless notices, instructions, commands, and words of concern. While signage serves as a means of communication that intervenes in individual behavior within everyday life, its sheer familiarity causes it to be accepted as a given or perceived in isolation from its surrounding context. As Koreans who reside or have resided in the Netherlands, the artists of Collective Do found that their prolonged time abroad allowed them to view familiar environments with estranged eyes. In particular, they closely observed the objects they encountered daily in their routines: signs. Differing in aesthetics, frequency, and content from country to country, these objects mirror the ethos of the society. What, then, has shaped the present state of Korean signage, and what narratives can we decipher from it?
The artists recorded and collected photographs of signage from Korea and the Netherlands.By analyzing the differences between the signs of the two nations, they decipher the instructions embedded within Korean signage for living as an individual within a collective. Although this language of control boisterously and repetitively dictates what should and should not be done, paradoxically, it is precisely for this reason that it at times appears loose, mutable, and even useless. This state reflects a Korean society that rapidly grew upon relationalism and its collective habits. The signage thus formed continues to influence individual perception and behavior. Through this, a cyclical structure is established among society, objects, and individuals, where each serves as both the background and the effect of the other.
Reacting to these phenomena through their work, the artists of Collective Do seek to infiltrate this cyclical structure of control using signage as a medium, exploring possibilities for alternative ways of relating. This inquiry into how we live collectively extends into the exhibition's very format. A Wikipedia page made available in the exhibition space compiles the collective research conducted by the artists on signage into a participatory encyclopedia. The exhibition space itself functions as part of the work. Borrowing an emergent methodology—wherein individual actions gather to generate structural outcomes—the artists perform their collaborative process. At its end, they plant markings that twist the museum’s own signals throughout the space. By doing so, they visualize the implicit rules at play within the museum, prompting a realization that control is omnipresent.
Signage serves as a lens through which to reflect upon society. Through this lens, we can look into the control mutually demanded of individuals within a society and uncover contradictory scenes of hastily formed relationships. Rather than denying these contradictions, the exhibition amplifies them, seeking once again a way to coexist as a collective without erasing the individual within that colliding structure.

	서울은 좁고 우리는 빽빽하다. 통과공간인 길거리는 진공상태가 되지 못하고 너와 나의 공간이 조금씩 걸쳐진 회색지대, 치열한 영역 다툼의 현장으로 자리 잡았다. 금지, 주의, 조심을 말하는 표지판은 그 위에 불안정한 경계를 세우고, 임시적 규칙을 만든다. 이렇게 그어진 통제의 선 이면에는 타인을 향한 신뢰의 결핍과 다정한 걱정이 뒤엉켜 있다. 그로부터 생성된 질서는 무심한 침범과 암묵적 허용으로 인해 쉽게 흩어지고 변형되며, 재구성된다. 질서의 굴절은 때로는 집단의 긴장을 키우지만, 한편으로는 접촉과 연결의 역동성을 확장한다. 투명한 표면 위에서 유연하게 구부러진 도시의 구조들은 유기적 변주의 가능성을 그린다. 도시는 유연한 물질이다. 이렇게 도시가 휘어진다.

	〈다 너 잘되라고 하는 소리야〉는 공공의 질서를 위한 언어가 관계 속 잔소리로 변형되고, 다시 내면의 규율로 되돌아와 스스로를 감시하게 되는 과정을 다룬다. 반짝이 시트지와 파스텔빛 장식으로 감싸진 문장들은 돌봄의 외피 아래 숨은 통제의 구조를 드러낸다. “공부 안 하니?”, “아직도 자니?”, “내가 널 어떻게 키웠는데!” 같은 말들은 애정과 감시, 돌봄과 통제를 동시에 수행하며, 사회적 생산성과 도덕적 의무를 내면화시킨다. 그렇게 각인된 표지판은 훈장처럼 남아, 이후의 사고와 정체성을 규정한다. 표지판으로 점철된 사회가 그렇듯이.
