This work began with a small sticker reading Cold Wave Warning, repeatedly pasted over the exact same spot in a subway station in Seoul—three times in total. It stands as both a trace of efforts to overcome a natural disaster and a record of improvised responses made under emotional pressure under bureaucratic constraints. Within this modest object lies a distinctly Korean cultural tendency: responding to events rather than addressing underlying structures.

Living between Korea and the Netherlands, I came to recognize the need for generosity as a way of being—between a society that values emotional bonds yet often remains rigid, and another that prizes rationality while allowing greater flexibility.

The first step toward understanding difference is not becoming more generous toward others, but becoming more generous toward ourselves.

Because generosity begins within and quietly spreads through our relationships, I hope this work becomes part of that contagion.
